G85xi

I didnt get a reply to my question so I went out and bought an A to B USB cable It works fine with some caveats The HP Director software says the printer is disconnected despite my having uninstalled the previous install and downloaded and installed the latest drivers But Im able to print fine and can scan through the Scanners and Cameras utility in the Windows XP control panel One lesson for anyone who tries this: during the install process the driver software says you dont need to reboot after the installation if youre using a USB cable After multiple attempts I found that I did have to reboot and that the printer had to be off until after that reboot given this printer I realise it is a very old model but it would be very useful to be able to print at A2 size so Id like to get it going if possible Im told it hasnt been used for a couple of years so I wasnt expecting it to work straight off When I switch it on it powers up gives a couple of beeps and then just sits there with the Online light flashing None of the menu buttons seem to work so I cant clean the print heads or anything All that appears on the lcd display is Print Mode HQ a Sheet Feeder symbol Control Mode BJ and Font 1 Ive installed the printer manually in Windows XP by selecting it from the list of printers Nothing happens when I do a test print Would it be worth installing some new compatible ink cartridges Is the print head contained in the ink cartridge in this modeL Any help much appreciated Thanks John

<dc:subject>InkJet Forum</dc:subject>

<item holding the and 6 buttons while plugging in the power If the reset fails to solve the problem clean the underside of the scanner glass the mirror that runs parallel to the scanner head lamp use a cotton swab and Windex and the encoder disk on the scanner head drive motor Removing the scanner glass 1 Open the scanner cover as if scanning a document lift straight up and it will lift off 2 Remove the two T20 Torx head screws in the well where the scanner cover hinge was 3 Release the latch under the right and left corners of the control panel and the glass assembly will lift off page prints it is necessary for it to be pushed into the paper output tray Three fingers accomplish this just as the page exits the rubber rollers that are visible when the cover is opened Print a page and view the printer at an angle where you can see the carriage move as printing takes place At the instant the paper comes out of the rollers the three fingers will popup and push the paper into the output tray If youve gotten a paper jam and pulled it out through the front and the fingers are missing then I suspect that was what broke them Paper jams should be removed through the rear access door The printer must be partially disassembled to replace the paper pusher Email me by clicking on the crossed tools to the right of my name if you want info on doing the repair Ask for the Deskjet 900 series paper pusher replacement info

<dc:subject>InkJet Forum</dc:subject>

<item
