HP Director stopped recognizing my Scanner, even the Fax component of the 5510 it is not recognized. It is not the Printer because I did a fresh install in a laptop and the software works great (original CDs).
I think the problem is unsoluble because it is a 1-yr old Windows XP Installation, pack with software and patches, ie. normal wear of a Windows XP Installation.
I am not willing to re-install my Windows Systems just to make HP Director work, I tried everything, HP Software removal tool and reinstall, hp removal tool plus Registry revision and clean up, reinstallations, safe mode.. you name it. So far too many hours to fix this.
It is not a IE 7 problem, I did not upgrade to 7 the systems.
So my questions:
- Is there a nice software to substitute HP Director? multi page scanning, automatic PDF conversion, etc?
- How do I get my fax back? It is not in the device list. I have the imaging devices but do not know how to add the 5510 as a regular fax, forget about HP Director.

I had the problem when doing an upgrade.
I tried everything such as removing the HP Software, rebooting the computer, switching on and off the printer with it's power switch.
No luck.
Removing the power supply from the printer solved the problem! On power up the computer would see the printer again.
