HP Color laserjet 2550n toner spill by Matt Seiwert (8/27/08 2:22 PM) reply + / -
Hello, I have searched the web and these forums for a fix to my problem and found nothing, and need some direction. This printer is spitting out pages with color issues randomly, and I can't find a pattern to them. some pages print fine with normal color balance, some come out too heavy on the cyan or magenta. This is only on the internal demo page, nothing from a PC. Every so often, a page or series of pages will come out with horizontal blue streaks and smears of varying intensity across the page. I tried replacing the imaging drum as it was near EOL. This did not help. I tried cleaning the electrical contacts for the toner cartridges, and tried blowing out most of the toner from the printer. Again, this is all just using the demo page for consistency, the same does happen printing other jobs. Another effect is that when the pages with blue lines come out, the smudging does not exist at all over the area where the graphic of the printer and the picture, just the rest of the page. It also makes a slightly darker streak running vertically on the left edge of the print side of the paper, about 1/4 inch in width. Is there a chance this is just the toner cartridge(s), or something deeper? I am at a loss what to try next and the department doesn't want to dump much more money into this printer if it can't be fixed. Thank you.

Are the toners HP OEM or aftermarket?

They are HP OEM.

Could it also be the high voltage power supply? Any ideas?

Ok, I forgot to add that the problem does not occur when using the engine test button. Does this narrow it down to the logic board?

You have printed a lot of pages with low coverage color with these cartridges, for example more than 2000 pages. Unfortunately this problem happens in 2550/2500 series. Replace Cyan cartridge and it will work good.
