HP officejet 5510 'Out of Paper' with full tray by teeschmid (8/28/08 5:19 AM) reply + / -
This officejet All-in-One is about three years old, has printed 988pages according the counter I can check on the display.
Out of a sudden it keeps saying that it's out of paper, even when a pile of - say 20 sheets - of paper are in it's tray.

I am used to it's long time of mussing before starting to print. It will still muss after I issue a print command, will send the cartridges to the right and back to the left, then asks for paper, requesting me to press after loading.
I noticed that, looking into the printer from the rear with the gray cover being off, I do not see the rubber covered roller hanging down on the paper stack turning - I suspect the problem to be there. Maybe the drive for this roller is broken, thus the roller will not feed the paper.

I had HP support yesterday on the chat. HP will not repair.

Has anyone had a similar problem? How do I open the bottom to get at the drive? How to repair it?

Thanks!

Clean the "hanging down roller" on the left with water and a cotton swab.
